YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO DONATE BLOOD IF YOU:
Are in good health and feel well today.
- Are 16 years of age or older (written parental consent required until 17th birthday).
- Weigh at least 110 lbs.
- Have not donated whole blood in the past 56 days.
- Have not been to the dentist in the past 72 hours.
YOU MAY NOT DONATE BLOOD IF YOU:
- Have a history of hepatitis or AIDS.
- Have traveled to a malarial area of the world in the past 12 months.
- Have lived in the U.K. for 3 months cumulatively from 1980 – 1996.
- Have spent time in Europe that adds up to 5 years cumulatively (1980 - present).
- Have had a tattoo applied, body parts pierced (excluding ear piercing), or an accidental needle stick in the past 12 months.
- Have a history of cancer, with the exception of basal and squamous cell skin cancer.
- Have used cocaine in the past 12 months.
- Have had a positive test for syphilis in the past 12 months.
- (for men) Have had sex with another man, even once, since 1977.
- Have used a needle to take drugs not prescribed by a doctor.
- Have taken money or drugs for sex since 1977.
- Have given anyone money or drugs to have sex with you in the past 12 months.
- Have had sex with anyone in the past 12 months who has:
- used a needle to take drugs not prescribed by a doctor.
- taken money or drugs for sex.
- Have taken the following medications:
- Proscar (prostate gland enlargement) – 1 month deferral
- Propecia (baldness) – 1 month deferral
- Accutane (severe acne) – 1 month deferral
- Avodart (prostate enlargement) – 6 month deferral
- Soriatane (severe psoriasis) – 3 year deferral
- Tegison (severe psoriasis) – indefinite deferral
