New RN Grad Program

You've got your nursing degree. And you're ready to put all you've learned into practice. At Saint John's Health Center, our new grad RN program provides you with all the resources you'll need to build the bridge between school and your first job as a registered nurse.

Saint John's is a premier destination for new grad nurses, providing a unique opportunity to start your career at a small, supportive hospital that enjoys a national reputation for clinical excellence. Offering six weeks of didactic and clinical experience with your own preceptor, followed by a long-term relationship with a mentor from your new unit, and you'll have our full support as you put your skills into action.

To encourage you to begin your career with us, we offer incentives like a generous benefits package, loan forgiveness opportunities, a scholarship program to support your education dreams for the future, and assistance with moving expenses if you are moving from a long distance to work with us.

Educational Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. You must obtain your Interim Permit from the California Board of Registered Nurses before the beginning of new grad orientation.

Program Details

Orientation begins with an introduction to Saint John's. You will join other new employees to learn about our quality assurance program, our workplace safety policies, your new benefits, and other general information.

During the next six weeks, you will begin work on the units with the assistance of your own preceptor. We will complement your clinical introduction to your new job with new grad support groups. These meetings will include open discussion with new grads from other units, and review basic skills such as organization, setting priorities, and delegation. We will also introduce you to the support services and people available to you as coordinator of your patients' care.

Once you are able to handle a patient care assignment on your own, your preceptor will become your mentor. You and your mentor will keep the same schedule for the next three to six months. Your mentor will be available to you for guidance and support. We will also provide monthly classes for you with clinical content relevant to your new practice.
