The New Saint John's
The Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences fulfills Saint John's mission of bringing the most advanced patient care available in a compassionate, healing environment. Its design and amenities are unparalleled anywhere in the city of Los Angeles.
The gracefully curving, four-story inpatient facility - with sweeping views of the Santa Monica mountains and cityscapes combines the latest medical technology with innovations in patient care-giving environments. Designed to promote well-being, the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences offers patients a soothing, comfortable and homelike environment with natural sunlight and garden views from every window. All patient rooms are private and have a 42-inch plasma flat-screen television and wireless Internet access. Throughout the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences, subtle colors and design features enhance comfort, communication and convenience.
Among the patient services featured in the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences are critical care, labor and delivery, neonatal intensive care, orthopedics, oncology and general medical surgical beds.
The Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences is the first phase of an extensive reconstruction plan following the 1994 Northridge earthquake which severely damaged the original hospital.
Saint John' is now constructing the Howard Keck Diagnostic and Treatment Center, a 275,000-square-foot, four-story treatment facility that will house a state-of-the-art Emergency Department, surgery rooms with the latest technologies, and imaging centers to meet both in and out-patient needs. The Keck Center will also house the beautiful chapel dedicated to Sister Marie Madeleine and Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth with stain glass windows gracing the façade of the Keck Center's soaring atrium.
 The new Saint John's will be the only hospital on the Westside to incorporate a state-of-the-art base isolation system to maximize Saint John's ability to sustain operations and to mitigate damage after a major seismic event such as the Northridge earthquake. The base isolators - the largest ever built - are part of a comprehensive infrastructure, including water, sewage and power, designed to keep the hospital open and running a time of community crisis.
