We live in a wired world where technology connects every aspect of our personal and professional lives, no matter where we are.
The Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences' high performance technology system is integrated seamlessly into the facility's infrastructure, which features a complex network of cabling and communication systems equipped with more than four million lineal feet of electrical conduit. The building runs on a single, robust data network that digitally supports everything from diagnostic images to climate control.
Physicians are able to electronically access information and patient charts, using the 42-inch flat screen plasma televisions in patient rooms. Patients can watch video-on-demand for educational and entertainment purposes, and video teleconferencing will enable patients to connect with families and friends. Patient rooms are equipped with Internet access and multi-purpose technology outlets that allow up to six devices such as telephones, computers, laptops and DVD players, to be plugged into a single outlet at any time.
The infrastructure's wireless network allows physicians, nurses and other staff to use any electronic device they need, from a personal digital assistant (PDA) to a portable laptop, tablet or desktop computer, to retrieve information wherever and whenever they are in the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences.
Nurses and key staff members will be equipped with wireless handsets that are integrated with the nurse call system, allowing patients to contact their assigned nurse with the touch of a button.
