Like smart phones that can access the Internet and take photos, today's television systems have come a long way since the simple black & white sets of the 1950s. The trend in electronics today is to combine multiple functions in a single device, and the television system in the Inpatient Pavilion is designed to do just that.
In addition to receiving regular programming channels, patients can tune in to specialty channels like HealthTV for patient education and The Care Channel, which can be personalized with still photos, calming images and soothing music. Patients can watch their own DVDs and VHS tapes, play back camcorder movies, listen to their favorite music and look at artwork or family photos on the TV screen.
There is a system to support video-on-demand for both entertainment and educational purposes. By using their remote control to select video content from a menu of options, patients can view specific information designed to help them during recovery or to inform them of care options.
All of the inpatient rooms are equipped with 42-inch flat screen plasma high-definition color televisions mounted on the wall. The critical care rooms will be equipped with similar 37-inch televisions.
Patients and visitors who wish to work on computers or access the Internet can bring in laptops to plug into the data port built into every patient room.
