Special Spaces

The Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences is designed to enhance patient, staff and visitor comfort 24/7. From the gracious first floor entry area to the many user-friendly spaces and amenities located throughout the Pavilion, these design elements make the new Saint John's a special place.

Through the looking glass. Scenic floor-to-ceiling glass windows at the end of every hallway on all four floors create quiet "contemplation corners" where visitors can relax and take a break.

Privacy please! Patients and medical staff will have separate service elevators so they can enjoy additional privacy and security while moving through the building.

The curves have it. Interior corridors are curved to add architectural interest and dimension. Instead of trudging down long, straight hallways, visitors follow gentle curved walkways punctuated by nursing stations configured with an open-plan design to make people feel more welcome.

Silence is golden. Specially manufactured carpeting for healthcare institutions is used in the corridors and common areas of the Inpatient Pavilion to help reduce noise levels for patients while adding the warmth of color and texture to public spaces.

Just like home. Easy care linoleum, designed to look like real wood flooring, brings a comforting, home-like ambiance to patient rooms. A similar feel is created in the desk-height nursing stations.
