A Place for Prayer

The Oratory in the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences is one of the elements expressing the spiritual mission of Saint John's and the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. It offers an intimate place for prayer and reflection, and is available to employees and patients 24 hours a day.

Due to the construction of the Howard Keck Diagnostic & Treatment Center, the distance between the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences and the old South Wing will make the new Oratory especially important to Saint John's employees who seek a moment of quiet contemplation during the course of their workday. Many Saint John's staff members visit the Oratory before beginning their work. Its new location in the new Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences will also provide a special place for employees to gather strength while caring for the sick.

The Oratory is centrally located at the first-level entrance to the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences. The Oratory is sponsored by Doris and Paul Carver in honor of Aubrey E. Austin and Audrey Austin Carver.

Adjacent to the Oratory, the Pastoral Care Office is named in recognition of support from Nancy and William Mortensen.
