The Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences features rooms with special design elements to provide patients and families with added comfort and support during their stay.
Each floor of the Chan Soon-Shiong Center for Life Sciences includes a comfortable and inviting Family Waiting Room, a small kitchenette and open areas at the end of each hallway to provide visitors with a quiet place to relax. Two consultation suites are available for families to meet privately with physicians to discuss the care of their loved one.
A convertible, extra-long window seat is built into every patient room to accommodate overnight stays by a visiting family member. Patient rooms feature a special "contemplation corner" to provide patients and their visitors with a place to put flowers, cards and personal effects. These nooks incorporate soothing artworks that add a warm touch of home.
Parents with a critically ill infant or families with a loved one in crisis can use the overnight Family-Stay Suite located near the Irene Dunne Guild Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the Maria Shriver Nursery and on the second floor Critical Care Unit. With the Family-Stay Suite, family members can be close to the patient and remain in constant contact with their medical team during a crisis.
